インドの商用車大手アショク・レイランドは19日、南部アンドラプラデシュ（ＡＰ）州ビジャヤワダ近郊でバス工場を開設した。同日から本格稼働の体制を整え、既に受注したディーゼル燃料と電気自動車（ＥＶ）のバスを製造する。
工場はビジャヤワダから約40キロメートル離れたマラバリにあり、敷地面積は75エーカー（約30ヘクタール）。アショク・レイランドのブランドでディーゼルバスを、同社のＥＶ部門スイッチ・モビリティーのブランドでＥＶバスを、それぞれ製造する。年産能力は4,800台。同工場には研修施設も併設する。
環境対策では、屋根置き型太陽光パネルの設置、発光ダイオード（ＬＥＤ）電灯の採用、工場内移動のＥＶ利用などを実施した。
